HDR supervision initial registration

Initial registration requirements

The purpose of Higher Degree Research (HDR) Supervision Registration is to ensure all HDR supervisors are familiar with the key contexts and policies relevant to supervision at ANU, and with principles of good supervisory practice. Registration is a core element of the HDR Supervision Development Framework.

Initial registration requirements for HDR supervision are summarised in the following table:

Explanatory information and time commitment

Please note that initial registration as a HDR supervisor is a once only activity, comprising either one or two components, depending on your level of HDR supervision experience:

  1. All supervisors are required to complete an online module, HDR Supervision at ANU: Responsibilities and Good Practice. It is available to ANU staff through Pulse (for experienced supervisors; for those new to supervision), or through Qualtrics for HDR supervisors who are not ANU staff members. Completing the module will take 45-60 minutes.
  2. Those new to supervision (i.e., who have not yet supervised a HDR candidate through to completion in any panel role) must participate in a 2-hour Foundations of HDR Supervision Workshop (details on the Foundations of HDR Supervision Workshops webpage). HDR supervisors who are unsure if this requirement applies to them can contact their local HDR Convener or the HDR Supervision Development Team.

Once you have completed the relevant initial registration requirements, you will receive an automated ANU HDR Supervisor Registration/Renewal – completed email and your name will be added to the HDR Supervisor Register.
