I believe mentoring is important because academia is a community of practice, not an individual mission. If we don’t succession plan by supporting, mentoring and facilitating the next generation, where does that leave us in the future?

My path to a continuing academic position has not been smooth- I had to fight for it and spent several years patchworking employment across teaching, service, data analysis and private industry roles. My research is also interdisciplinary, applied and mixed-methods- if any of those apply to you, you’ll be aware of the challenges this presents. ECRs should know it’s not over if you don’t get the DECRA- let’s talk about your options.
