Hazard alerts (2015)

Birds have entered the roof space of the Psychology Building and removed insulation from cables.  This presents a serious risk for fire and electric shock to personnel who enter the roof space.  Contractors are now in the process of repairing the cables and sealing the building to prevent further bird entry.

There may be a possibility birds have entered the roof space of other buildings and caused similar damage. The Facilities and Services Division will arrange for an inspection of susceptible buildings.  Where evidence is found of bird entry, the entry points will be sealed and electrical wiring inspected.

ANU Maintenance staff, contractors and others who access roof spaces should consider this additional risk and make appropriate provision in their risk assessment procedures.
