I believe mentoring is important because leadership can be lonely.

I have worked in two very different higher education contexts - UK and Australia - and held leadership roles in both. I have lived experience of building a career while managing chronic health conditions. I have learned to lead the hard way, by making mistakes and developing critical self-awareness.
