Working from home

Workstation set up and equipment when working from home

Staff are expected to maintain a safe work environment when working from home. This includes ensuring an appropriate ergonomic workstation set up suitable to their tasks. Advice on setting up a home based workstation can be found here:

Staff, including casuals, are required to submit an Individual Flexibility Agreement/ Home Based Work application electronically through HORUS for the approval of their supervisor and delegate before commencing any flexible work arrangements.

More information can be found here: https://policies.anu.edu.au/ppl/document/ANUP_000598.

Instructions for completing the IFA agreement can be found here: https://services.anu.edu.au/information-technology/software-systems/hr-online-remote-user-system/individual-flexibility

If you require IT assistance remotely, check the IT Knowledge Base prior to logging a ticket with the Service Desk

Taking ANU equipment home

Staff are allowed to take home items (under 10kg) that can be transported safely. Please register the equipment that you have taken home using the Equipment Register form. Please note you will need to take personal responsibility for this equipment - including safely removing, carrying and installation in your home, and returning it at the end of the working away from campus period.

  • You may take items under 10kg (e.g. your chair) home if you can do so in a safe manner. Please do not take chairs on public transport.
  • Do not remove any large office equipment such as desks, or sit-to-stand desks to take home.
  • The University will not be organising removalists or such to remove items from the University to your home.

Support

If you need any support or advice for yourself or on how to best assist other people you care about, here are some options or get in touch with your treating health care provider for further assistance.

If you are unable to ensure a safe and suitable workspace at home due to financial or other difficulties, you should liaise with your supervisor and the Community Wellbeing Team about alternative worksite options, equipment purchases or loan through their local area.

Support options outside of ANU

The University is unable to provide home internet connectivity or process reimbursements (for internet or new furniture). You may be able to claim this in your annual tax, but please seek independent advice for your personal situation. Please visit the Australian Tax Office website to find advice about tax deductions for work expenses.

If you are having difficulty with your own provided home internet connection or home computer there are a range of private organisations that you could contact to provide an individual private arrangement.

Safe spaces to work

If your home situation does not feel like a safe place for you during these periods, please talk to your supervisor. If you are not comfortable doing this, please contact the Community Wellbeing Team on communitywellbeing@anu.edu.au to discretely and confidentially discuss your personal circumstances. The Community Wellbeing Team can assist you in ensuring a safe place to work, which could include designated locations on campus.

Please remember support services are available as detailed above and including:
