Targeting your audience

Who your target audience is:

A target audience, from a recruitment perspective,is defined as a group of individuals with a specific background of qualifications and experiences capable of fulfilling a particular recruitment need.

What your message to that audience is:

The goal is to paint a picture that you perceive your target audience will consider attractive and be prompted to respond to.

  • What is the nature of the individuals you are trying to reach?
  • What is it that professionally motivates and excites these individuals?
  • How can we paint the picture to attract people with the right experience?
  • Where will I find these people?

Studies show that individuals can be 'pushed' into leaving their current role or 'pulled' into a new role with the right 'triggers'

The University can offer potential candidates:

  • on campus childcare centres
  • on campus banks, chemist, post office and a range of other great facilities

So be sure to make these benefits known to your audience!

How the target audience will be reached:

The recruitment method is how you chose to contact and convey your message to your target audience. The University's recruitment methods involve reaching mass audiences through a range of media including websites. The expectation is that a broadly advertised vacancy will attract a range of applicants leading to the successful appointment of a suitable candidate.

Targeting job seekers with a disability

If you are seeking to extend the pool of candidates or proactively recruit people with personal experience of disability to your team, you can obtain assistance and advice from an external agency that specialises in employment diversity.

You can brief the agency about the particular skills that are being sought and the employment agency will help publicise the position through their networks.Using an employment agency does not exempt the University from liability under the Equal Opportunity Act.
