Rental Vehicles and ANU Carshare

Important note: When renting vehicles, ensure you are aware of all charges involved, including possible additional costs for excess kilometres in outer or remote locations. It is also important to make yourself aware of the insurance exclusions if driving in remote areas. The insurance may be void on the rental vehicle if it is being used improperly or if the vehicle is driven in certain conditions/areas, i.e. above snowline, unmarked or unsealed roads etc.

Pricing/Rates

ANU have negotiated discounts in place with the following preferred car rental providers:

Please note:

Discounted rates are available both direct and via our travel management company CTM.

Corporate discount rates include reduced excess and Unlimited km’s (remote locations may vary).

Payment – SIXT offer an invoice chargeback facility to ANU for bookings via our travel management company CTM, eliminating the need for a credit card. All other car rental requires a credit card payment at time of vehicle collection.

Note – For rentals of 7+ days, it is generally more cost effective to collect the vehicle from a non-airport depot to avoid airport collection fees (% of total rental).

Corporate travel insurance- rental vehicle excess waiver

Please Note: This cover only applies where the rental is for the purpose of an authorised ANU business activity. It does not apply to the hire of a vehicle for personal/private use.

If during the period of insurance and whilst on an authorised ANU business related journey, an insured person rents or hires a rental vehicle AND that rental vehicle is involved in a collision whilst under the control of the insured person OR the rental vehicle is stolen or damaged, the insured person can lodge a Travel Insurance claim for reimbursement of the excess payable only up to the amount of $5,000. All claims are to be made via the ANU Insurance Office.

Rental vehicle means a rented sedan, station wagon and other non-commercial vehicle rented or hired from a licensed motor vehicle rental company and shall not include any other vehicle.

Conditions under section 10

As part of the arrangement for the rent or hire of the rental vehicle, the insured person must take all compulsory motor vehicle insurance provided by the rental organisation, against loss or damage to the rental vehicle during the rental period.

Exclusions under section 10

We shall not be liable for any claims attributable to:

1. The insured person not holding a current motor vehicle drivers licence.
2. The insured person being in charge of a rental vehicle whilst under the influence of alcohol or a drug not prescribed by a doctor or with a percentage alcohol in their breath, blood or urine in excess of that permitted by law at the time and place of the incident.
3. The illegal or criminal use of a rental vehicle by you or the insured person.
