James Giggacher

Associate Director, Media and Communications

James runs the University’s media team and media engagement program. With ANU researchers constantly making headlines all over the world, it’s never dull.

He has a background in media and has worked across a wide range of communication and editorial roles at Australian universities for more than a decade – much of that time at The Australian National University. In addition to ANU, James has worked at the University of Technology Sydney, RMIT University and the sector’s peak body, Universities Australia.

James is committed to giving a voice to academic research and expertise. Knowledge has the power to shape society and our world for the better and the media is vital to this. His own writing has been published across a range of Australian and international media including The Canberra Times, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, ABC’s The Drum, SBS News, Business Spectator, CNN and Rappler, as well as specialist websites Asian Currents, Policy Forum and New Mandala ­– where he was editor from 2015 to 2017.

James holds a masters of international affairs from ANU and bachelor’s degrees in journalism and international studies from UTS.
