Staff survey

PUBLISHED

In October 2014 the University conducted its second staff engagement survey in collaboration with the Voice Project. After initial discussion of survey results within the ANU Senior Management Group, we are publishing University-wide results in support of action planning aimed at further improving the perceived quality of working at the ANU.

The 2014 ANU staff engagement survey achieved a response rate of 62 per cent, with the key outcome measure - Staff Engagement - being essentially unchanged at 77 per cent and noticeably higher than the average for the Higher Education sector.

This very positive result for the University is accompanied by similar results in several areas where we have improved over the past three years. Significant advancements are reflected in the survey results for our facilities and grounds, work health and safety practices and knowledge, as well as engagement with the community, including engagement with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.

Our staff strongly believe in the University's mission and values and we have also achieved very good results for practices related to the management of talent, role clarity, teamwork and the prevention of harassment and discrimination.

Areas requiring further focus to drive improvements relate to the University's capacity to adapt to change and innovation, our technology and processes as well as cross-unit cooperation and involvement.

In light of these findings, the University will be continuing its business transformation program through the Intelledox Business Transformation Centre, with improvements to HR processes scheduled to go live at the end of July 2015 and a program of work for student administration processes scheduled for the second half of the year, involving cross-functional and cross-unit working groups.

The HR Division will continue to work with College Deans and Service Division Directors and their teams to further analyse survey results and to agree on focus areas for improvement relevant to each unit.
