A note for the holiday period - Supports are always available
The holiday period can be a great time to rest and recover. However, we recognise it can also be a challenging time for many. Please know that you are not alone. Over this period there are support services available 24/7 if you need any mental health or wellbeing connection.
ACT-based support services available 24/7
- All ANU staff members and their family members have access to the Employee Assistance program through two providers.
- Assure - contactable 24/7 by calling 1800 808 374.
- Relationships Australia - located in Deakin. A great option if you prefer a face-to-face service. - ACT Access Mental Health offer 24/7 mental health emergency access and support. Call 1800 629 354 or 6205 1065.

National support services available 24/7
- 1800Respect provides 24/7 national sexual assault, family, and domestic violence counselling services. Call 1800 737 732 or text 0458 737 732.
- Lifeline provides 24/7 national support to any person experiencing crisis or thinking about suicide. Call 13 11 14.
- 13Yarn provides confidential Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander crisis support, highlighting the importance of culturally safe practice. Call 13 92 76.
- Beyond Blue provides free and confidential national information and support to anyone experiencing mental health concerns. Call 1300 22 4636.
On-campus counselling support to staff will continue in early 2025. The ANU Adviser’s to Staff will be back on campus from Tuesday 7 January 2025. Contact the ANU Adviser’s to Staff via staff.adviser@anu.edu.au. Additionally, the Staff Respect Consultant will be available for appointments in person or online from Monday 6 January 2025. The Staff Respect Consultant is here to provide free and confidential support to ANU staff experiencing issues that may impact your work experience, engagement, career development and your health and wellbeing. This could include, but is not limited to, ablism, sexism, racism, discrimination, harassment, bullying and sexual harassment.
The Staff Respect Consultant has career and education experience in supporting vulnerable communities in university and not-for-profit settings. With knowledge and education in mental health, including mental health first aid, suicide intervention training and skills working with people in crisis, the priority is to work from person-centred and trauma-informed practice frameworks. This means that you will be treated with dignity and respect and will receive a transparent and confidential service that will empower you to make choices and connect with others.
If you would like to discuss a matter with the Staff Respect Consultant, please use the contact details listed below. Emails are responded to within 48 hours. You can remain anonymous when calling the consultant by noting that you would not like to provide identifying information.
You can also receive workplace support through the College/Divisional Human Resources Practitioners who provide a range of operational and consulting support services to, and provide the first point of contact with, their local staff within the parameters of University delegations, HR policy, procedures and guidelines set by the Chief People Officer. They also contribute to HR policy development.
