Call for proposals: King’s College London – ANU joint virtual roundtables

25 Oct 2021

With the goal of enhancing collaborations in education and research, the Australian National University (ANU) and King’s College London (KCL) are launching a call for Joint Virtual Roundtables. The Roundtables will enable ANU and KCL faculty to identify complementary strengths and synergies and promote the development of impactful collaborative research and education projects.

The KCL-ANU Joint Virtual Roundtables will serve as a catalyst for the development of new joint projects and/or international networks led by KCL and ANU academics. Each roundtable should have an interdisciplinary theme to address global problems. Each roundtable will be co-chaired by academics from KCL and ANU and include researchers at all career levels, including postdoctoral researchers and PhD students across different colleges at both universities.

We are particularly keen to encourage interdisciplinary proposals in the areas of social resilience, climate and health, population health, health and communities, security and policy and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Awards

ANU will offer AU$1,000 each to the ANU Lead in the best four proposals from the pool of submitted applications.

KCL will provide travel support (flights and accommodation) to their academics to attend the KCL-ANU 2022 Symposium in Canberra. The selected proposals of the joint roundtables will be evaluated again at the end of June 2022 according to the delivery, outcomes and impact of their activities. The delegation attending the joint KCL-ANU Symposium in Canberra will be selected based on the outcomes and impact of the proposed activities. Please note that the organisation of the symposium is dependent on national guidelines regarding travel. More details on the symposium will be provided in early 2022.

Timeline

The virtual roundtable should take place between late November 2021 – June 2022.

Eligibility

All academic staff, including postdoctoral researchers, should apply with an academic from the partner institution. Research students can be included in the proposal as participants but cannot chair a Roundtable.

Both KCL and ANU are members of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU); hence, we welcome proposals involving other ACU members outside the UK and Australia, and/or in synergy with ACU projects.

Selection criteria

  • Clearly formulated goals
  • Information on envisaged synergies
  • Indication of pathways for future joint research and/or education projects
  • Pathway to impact
  • Information on how the collaboration can be sustained in the long term

Submission of proposals

Proposals must be jointly submitted by both Principal Investigators. The participants should include both senior and junior faculty/researchers at both universities and ideally include postdoctoral researchers and PhD students as well. The applicants should use the application formand submit their proposal to globalengagement@kcl.ac.uk and international.strategy@anu.edu.au by 7 November 2021.
