To be considered for employment at the Australian National University, applicants must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid visa that permits employment in Australia.

Where sponsorship is approved, support may be provided under one of the following visa categories:

- Subclass 186 – Employer Nomination Scheme Visa
- Direct Entry Stream
- Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream
- Subclass 408 – Temporary Activity Visa
