2024 Election for Academic Staff Representative

On 24 September 2024, The University formally gave notice to all eligible UniSuper Academic staff members the need for nomination for the election of one professional staff representative of The Australian National University (ANU) to the UniSuper Consultative Committee (USCC). Notice was provided via email, with an On Campus notification being distributed on the same day. In line with UniSuper Guidelines, the nomination period was open from 24 September 2024 to 21 October 2024.

Two candidates were nominated, meaning that, in line with the UniSuper Guidelines, an official election process was to be held.

On 29 October 2024, formal notice of the election was provided via email. The polls for the election closed at 5pm (AEDT) Friday, 8 November and scrutiny of the electronic count took place via Zoom videoconference at 12pm (AEDT) Monday 11 November 2024.

The successful candidate for the election was Associate Professor Gaurav Khemka, whose term in the academic representative position commenced on 12 November 2024.

Associate Professor Gaurav Khemka

Associate Professor in Actuarial Studies and Statistics – Research School of Finance, Actuarial Studies & Statistics, College of Business and Economics.

As an Associate Professor of Actuarial Studies at the ANU and a Fellow of the Actuaries Institute of Australia, I mainly research in the field of superannuation and retirement planning. I focus on improving individual retirement outcomes and developing innovative retirement products and strategies. Having widely published in this field, I have contributed to policy debate, been cited in government reports, and received numerous media mentions. I have also written a primer on post-retirement risks and their mitigation for the US financial services community. I aim to use my experience to help and advise UniSuper to improve member outcomes.

 

Dr Timo Henckel

Senior Lecturer in Economics – Research School of Economics, College of Business and Economics. 

I am Senior Lecturer in the Research School of Economics at ANU and program director of the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis. I have also worked at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, as a consultant to the APS and as an independent futures trader in London. I received my PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics in 2007.
As a long-time employee in the higher education sector, I am committed to actively protecting and representing UniSuper members’ diverse interests and contributing to the achievement of optimal retirement outcomes, while enhancing UniSuper’s performance and sustainability.
