HDR Update
April 2021
Welcome to April. We are well into the year and I have enjoyed meeting many of you in person at events across the campus. I am especially looking forward to meeting our newest researchers at HDR Induction events where you will learn everything you need to know to get your PhD underway.

The situation in Brisbane is a reminder that COVID is still with us and that things can change rapidly. We all need to remain agile in responding to these changes.  I am currently in quarantine after travelling to Brisbane for work – all travel has potential risk.

There is new information on fieldwork travel on the COVID-19 advice page. There are also new procedures for registering as an offshore candidate. Further information and the forms can be found online at: https://www.anu.edu.au/covid-19-advice/research/hdr-candidates.

The Research and Innovation Portfolio Change Implementation Plan is now available here: https://www.anu.edu.au/covid-19-advice/recovery-plans/change-management-process-research-and-innovation-portfolio. There are implications for the delivery of statistical support for HDR candidates. The Statistical Consulting Unit will close, but we will still be delivering statistical support in a new way based on the feedback received from you and discussions across campus.

It has recently come to my attention that some members of our community have called out racist and offensive material on campus. I want to assure you that ANU leaders take the security and safety of our campus seriously. I encourage you to report if you feel unsafe, either to your supervisor or directly to me via dean.hdr@anu.edu.au.
