HDR Update

Welcome to 2024!  I hope you were able to take a break and are feeling refreshed as the new year begins. I have enjoyed a bit of beach time and am enjoying the warm evenings.

This year you will start hearing about two changes in PhD programs - Confirmation of Candidature and Oral Examinations.

If you started your PhD or MPhil this year (from 1 Jan 2024), you will be doing a Confirmation of Candidature which will replace the Thesis Proposal Review (TPR). The new milestone is designed to give you more clarity and support to be successful in this first major milestone. If you were already enrolled in 2023 you will still do the TPR. We will communicate the changes as they occur over the year.

Oral examinations are also on the horizon. We aim to have the ability for you to choose to do an oral examination from July this year. So, if you think this might be an option for you, keep an eye out for further communication. More information will be available in the coming months as we ensure all the systems and policies are in place to support you and the changes. New candidates who enrol from July will be required to complete an oral examination.

Our Researcher Development team will be offering training tailored to the new Confirmation of Candidature milestone and many other fantastic courses to support your development. You could also look out for your ANUSA Shut Up and Write this year! A great way to be productive and social at the same time.
