HDR Update

And finally it is Spring. We have certainly seen some warmer temperatures over the past week. But don’t get too excited, you will need your puffer jacket for a few months yet.

However, we can be excited about our mid-year intake of new candidates. Welcome. We look forward to meeting you in person and preparing you for success at ANU at our induction program in a couple of weeks.

Last month I mentioned feedback you gave us about inductions through the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES). Another thing you told us through PRES is that you want more opportunities to connect with researchers outside of your local area and your discipline. We are currently working out how we can support you to have greater connection across the university to enrich your research and your experience.

One of our university-wide events is the 3 Minute Thesis final. The 3MT provides opportunities to develop your communication and public speaking skills, learn about cutting-edge research from across campus, and meet and engage with colleagues. Please consider getting involved next year.

Our 2022 final is on tonight, so come along and support your colleagues as they stand in the spotlight – it’s a great night out!

Dean, Higher Degree Research

Setting yourself up for success
This series of 2-hour workshops (19-22 Sept) covers the basics you need to get your research degree under way. Find out how to avoid tragic research mistakes, get what you need from busy supervisors, manage your project to stay on time, and please examiners. If you missed the face-to-face HDR Induction, this will get you up to speed; if you attended, this will take you into more detail about how to get the most out of your PhD experience.
OG Boot Camp
The OG Boot Camp is back! Join us for the 'write 20,000 words on a weekend' challenge in December. The concept of Thesis Boot Camp is disarmingly simple. Put a group of people experiencing similar issues in the same room for a weekend, feed them regularly and provide a reward for each 5,000 words written.Think it can't be done? Come along and find out. The registrations close on 16 Nov 2022
