HDR Update

We have just past the winter solstice so, while the weather stays chilly, the days will start to get longer.

We are gearing up for the 3 Minute Thesis competition and have training to support you to develop your pitch and participate in your college final. Expert communication takes a variety of forms and pitching an idea in 3 minutes helps you to develop and refine your communication skills. Our training will also help you develop confidence speaking in front of an audience and learn a few tricks to deliver your message with impact. Click here to see how you can get involved. We are also running the Visualise Your Thesis competition again in August, click here to see how you can participate.

Last year we trialled the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) which provides a university-wide mechanism for you to tell us how we are doing across a range of issues related to your candidature. We should receive the results for 2021 soon, and we will share the results with you. We will be running this survey again this year and hope to show progress on areas where you tell us you need more support. The survey will be running in a couple of months, and we encourage you to participate. It really does help us see where we can improve. We will have more communications on this survey soon.

July is the month for our mid-year graduation ceremonies. For those graduating, I look forward to celebrating with you.

Where are the jobs for researchers?
Our PostAc® algorithm sorts job ads by research skills intensity, enabling us to see who is hiring researchers, where and for what kind of work. This presentation will include latest data on the job market in Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

Please register here.
Can you help us?
As you all know, there is a compulsory research integrity training exam in your first milestone. Many of you would have completed this exam in the past. We are about to put a new exam in production and are seeking feedback and testers. You will be compensated for your time.

Supporting your PhD partner
In this workshop, we explore the role that our partners play in supporting us and our research journey. We also unpack what they are experiencing and how your experience can shape the relationship.
