Three Minute Thesis Competition
|
Imagine condensing hours, days, maybe even years of complex research into a short, dynamic and accessible presentation in front of a packed theatre, while your communication skills are being judged by an expert panel. No pressure, right?! It is often said that an 80,000-word thesis would take 9 hours to read out loud, but tonight's contestants have just 3 short minutes and a single PowerPoint slide to support them.
Join us on the 27th of July for that rare beast - an evening of intelligent entertainment suitable for the whole family, and catch a glimpse of some of the amazing research projects that are being conducted by ANU PhD students.
Please book your seats in the Llewellyn Hall at ANU here and for more information click here. If you can't make it in person, please register here. |

Examination and iThenticate
|
HDRs now have access to iThenticate. This text-matching software is like Turnitin, but specifically designed for researchers – it doesn’t save your material, and it can handle much bigger files. From July, HDRs will be required to include an iThenticate similarity report alongside their thesis when submitting for examination. This online workshop will help you get maximum benefit from using this tool. During this workshop you will:
- explore how and why plagiarism can appear in PhD theses
- become familiar with the iThenticate software
- interpret the similarity report
- understand how to use this tool to improve your writing

2023 Visualise Your Thesis competition!
|
Visualise Your Thesis is an exciting competition that helps researchers achieve advanced visual literacy and supports PhD candidates to develop their digital presentation skills - in this era of ‘be visible or vanish’, these are essential items in the engaged researcher’s toolkit. Competition submissions are judged on their visual impact, and how well the content presents the research. The digital format allows for different levels of creativity, multi-media, interactivity and interpretation and is suitable for all disciplines.

It's important to remember that your career journey is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all path to success. As you navigate the transition from student to employee, try to approach it with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to acquire new skills or explore professional landscapes that complement your existing expertise, passions, and interests.
