All staff and students working with animals at The Australian National University are required to attend an animal ethics seminar and complete online and practical training before their work with animals commences.

PLEASE NOTE: Face-to-face seminars (including the Animal Ethics Seminar) are cancelled until further notice. You can still register via HORUS to get access to the material on Wattle. We ask that you go through the material and complete the quiz online, and attend a session at a later date. If you have further questions, email us your enquiry.

ANML03 (Animal Ethics Seminar)

 

 

Mandatory for ALL personnel involved in work with research animals, including wildlife projects.

 

This course is a co-requisite for all ANU Animal Handling courses.

 

Face-to-face seminar plus online notes and assessment.

 

Please allow 90 minutes for the session + Q&A.

ANML02 (Introduction to Mouse Care and Handling)

Mandatory for all staff required to handle rodents for research purposes. 

 

Note: Participants with sufficient experience can be fast tracked through these sessions.

 

3-day course with theoretical notes, practical course and assessment

ANML05 (Sharps Safety with Animals)

 

 

Mandatory for all staff and students required to handle sharp objects within a laboratory environment.

 

Mandatory for individuals performing injection techniques with GMOs.

 

This course is a prerequisite to all training involving the use of sharps when working with live animals within the ANU.
