From the Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Research Training

What brought you to ANU? If you are a recently arrived HDR (Higher Degree by Research) student (i.e. within the last two months) we'd like your input to help us develop a marketing campaign to attract HDR students. Come to a meeting on Thursday 3 September 1–2pm in the Centre on China in the World boardroom and tell us what influenced you to choose ANU and give us feedback on our artwork mock-ups. We want to know what makes us attractive and how to present it. Email Peter Francis to RSVP so we can cater some lunch for everybody. A free lunch and chance to see inside the most beautiful building on campus. What more could you want!

Shut Up & Write!

ANU postgraduate students! Are you in the process of writing your research proposal, an article or your doctoral dissertation and in need of a change of scenery, some friendly peer pressure, a bit of FREE caffeine or all of the above? The Postgraduate and Research Students' Association (PARSA) Shut Up & Write! group may be just what you are looking for. Run by HDR students, the group meets twice weekly for two hour sessions on Mondays (9–11am) and Thursdays (2–4pm) at Biginelli Expresso Café (level 5, ANU School of Music). The formula is simple. Four blocks of 25 minutes to write in silence; breaks of five minutes between each block to order a hot beverage, stretch and talk. No critiquing, no exercises, lectures, or egos; just join in and write or read at your own pace. For more information, updates on sessions, useful tips and upcoming events, join us on Facebook or subscribe to our mailing list.

The ACT Government has agreed to a fee exemption for the dependants of international HDR students enrolled in ACT public schools! More information here.
