Supporting early career researchers (ECR) to attend and present research at international conferences.
ANU academic staff holding a PhD conferred up to 8 years ago (on or after 1 January 2009), excluding career interruptions such as parental leave.
Unfortunately, we are unable to accept applications from honorary staff, visiting fellows, casuals and sessional academics.
Accepted abstract at an international conference or workshop that will provide an opportunity to present research to a broad audience. Conference dates no later than 31 March 2018.
Researcher has not been granted an ANU travel grant in last 2 years.
Assessment of the benefits of attendance on the researcher's career development and the need for support.
Procedure for researcher
Researcher to complete and submit, in (one) pdf page, the application form, a 2-page CV, the accepted abstract and confirmation of its acceptance. A scan of the signed application should be sent to Funding Pre Award enquiries, with subject heading Travel Grant Application - <Lastname>.
Researcher/College Research Office will also contact the relevant College Finance Office to arrange funding allocation to be transferred to an appropriate Recurrent (R-ledger) account.
Researcher agrees to spend funding in line with Funding Conditions (specified below) and the ANU Travel Policy. Talk to your local administrators regarding appropriate methods of making travel payments from the nominated account. Your local administrators should be able to assist in completing all forms and processes required prior to travel, to ensure consistency with ANU policies and procedures, including travel diaries and travel to high-risk countries.
Successful applicants must agree to participate in a short survey employed in future to determine the efficacy of the scheme.
Funding allocation & conditions
The quantum of funding is a flat rate determined by location of the international conference:
New Zealand: $1,250
Asia and Pacific: $2,000
Rest of the World: $3,000
Funds can be expended for: conference registration, transport/airfares, accommodation, poster printing cost.
Funds cannot be expended for: per diems/allowances, meals, private expenses
Unspent funds must be returned.
Note that there is a limited pool of funding to support this scheme in 2017. Applications will be assessed on a first-come, first-served basis. There may be insufficient funding to support travel until the end of 2017. Please note this process may take up to 8 weeks, from application submission to funds transfer. Please ensure you submit your application with this timeframe in mind.
