The Electricity Reduction Projects lighting initiative has been concentrating on Toad and Ursula Halls with a revamp of internal lighting and some external works. These works are driven by conserving energy and reducing the maintenance requirement of the existing equipment.
The upgrades should extend the life of light bulbs from an average of approximately eight weeks with the old equipment to at least five years with the new LED replacements, reducing material costs along with hours of labour. The majority of this work will be undertaken during the Christmas shutdown, causing minimal disruption for the College residents. Updating the lighting for parts of the Research School of Physics and Engineering buildings, is scheduled to commence early in 2016.
