ANU launches new privacy awareness online course

15 May 2016

To reinforce this year's Privacy Awareness Week theme, Privacy in your hands, the Australian National University is launching a new online training module to help staff understand their rights and responsibilities when handling personal information.

The module, delivered through Pulse online learning, delivers a principle and scenario based approach and contains examples of real life privacy issues in administration, teaching and research activities.

University Librarian, Roxanne Missingham, said it is "in our hands" to ensure members of the University are aware of and committed to privacy.

"The University is committed to ensuring it's members are aware of privacy rights and responsibilities, but we must also step up to the challenge of taking control of privacy management. Training modules such as this Pulse course are an essential step in maintaining a good understanding of privacy.

The new module was developed through extensive consultation with the Work Environment Group, Legal Office, Information Technology Services and ANU Student Administration. The excellent design work was done by Belinda Day in ANU Human Resources.
