ANU maintains an emergency SMS broadcast service in order to contact registered members of the ANU community in the event of a major campus emergency.
This service operates as an opt-in service and to be as effective as possible we would encourage all members of the ANU community to register their details. Once registered it is important that you keep your emergency contact details up-to-date. The system is updated daily with new and updated numbers.
Equally important is the need for the University to test the service to ensure that message are sent and received by the community in a timely fashion. In order to do this we send a test message via the SMS broadcast service once every six months.
How to opt-in
In order to receive the Emergency SMS Broadcast, you will need to have registered your mobile phone number in Horus or Isis. The number entered must be in the format 04XXXXXXXX, eg, 0412345678. The system does not accept local numbers or numbers with international or state area codes.
To update your details go to:
Affiliates (Non ANU staff or students): identity.anu.edu.au
HORUS/ISIS > Personal Information > Phone Numbers > Add a Phone Number > select 'Emergency Mobile'
If you are unable to access any of these systems and would like to be registered or have received an SMS in error please email contact the Service Desk for further assistance.
We are also able to offer bulk SMS broadcasting for individual areas such as Student Administration, Halls & Colleges. Any request for information should be logged on the Service Desk.
