Written applications

All selection processes at ANU involve asking applicants to submit a written application consisting of the following:

  • a resume/curriculum vitae
  • a statement of claims against the selection criteria
  • contact details of three referees.

The written application makes the identification of key data easier and simpler for recording and tracking purposes and ensures all applicants are contributing the same base set of data so that fair judgements can be made.

The basis for an applicant being short listed for an interview for the position is determined by a selection committee considering an applicant's suitability in the context of their answers to the selection criteria requirements.

Applicants are asked to read Applying for a position at ANU which provides information Applicants are on how to frame their responses to the selection criteria.

Preparing a written application involves a considerable investment of time by applicants. Asking them to provide a statement of claims against a long list of selection criteria may deter good candidates from applying. Care must be taken to ensure that the selection criteria are limited to the core/essential requirements of the position.

Acknowledgements

All applications for positions at ANU, both online and manual, must be acknowledged. There are facilities within the Recruit@ANU system that will generate acknowledgement emails and letters.
