Thesis Boot Camp
|
The Thesis Boot Camp is back! Join us for the 'write 20,000 words on a weekend' challenge in December. The concept is disarmingly simple. Put a group of people experiencing similar issues in the same room for a weekend, feed them regularly and provide a reward for each 5,000 words written. Think it can't be done? Come along and find out. The registrations close on 17 Nov 2022.

Writing for The Conversation, Newspapers and Magazines

There is a huge audience out there with a seemingly insatiable appetite who regularly turn to The Conversation and commercial newspapers and magazines to find out what's going on within the walls of academia. This two-hour session will show you how to pitch your stories to these outlets and write them in a way that will leave the audience wanting for more.

Preparing for the Academic Job Market
|
The competition for good jobs in academia is fierce - what sort of skills and capabilities do you need to stand out? In this 4-hour workshop, Professor Inger Mewburn shares the research on academic job ads, which shows that academic jobs require a broad range of "non-research" skills, which you have the opportunity to sharpen while you are enrolled in a PhD. In this workshop we will go through the most valuable skill sets and think about how and where you develop them. We will then look at how to craft answers to ‘key selection criteria’ and other writing that you need to do in the job hunt, including making your CV. Finally, we will think about the most crucial set of skills you need to make you the “stand out, must have” candidate.
