Understanding future students

Survey aim

The Australian National University is committed to improve the way we connect and retain brilliant students like you in the future. Your feedback will help us tailor how we connect with future ANU students, allowing us to give students like you the most relevant information possible.

This survey is being undertaken by the Marketing and Student Recruitment Division. There are no agencies external to the ANU involved in the conduct of this project, and this activity does not form the basis of academic research.

Benefits to participation

Participants in this project will have the opportunity to inform the ANU recruitment policies and practices, ensuring that future students like you receive relevant and useful information that improve and smooth their experience during the university application process. Participants who complete the survey will have the opportunity to enter a competition to win 1 of 5 $200 GiftPay gift cards. Each valid entry will be individually judged on the most innovative answer to a short question at the end of the survey and the best 5 responses will be chosen by a panel of representatives from ANU.

Risks to participation

The survey uses non-invasive questions to ask about the reasons for choosing not to attend ANU. This risk to participants is assessed as very low.

Responses to this survey will remain confidential. Raw data will stored securely and access will be restricted to the Marketing and Student Recruitment Division. Appropriate steps will be taken to ensure that individual participants will not be identifiable in any subsequent reporting (e.g. qualitative responses will be de-identified where necessary, quantitative reporting will be suppressed for sample subgroups smaller than five people).

Privacy notice

In collecting your personal information, the ANU must comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth). The ANU Privacy Policy is available at Policy document and it contains information about how a person can access or seek correction to their personal information. Also provided is information about how a person can complain about a breach of an Australian Privacy Principle by ANU, and how ANU will handle the complaint.
