Types of mentoring:
Academic

I believe mentoring is important because academic life is simultaneously enjoyable, fulfilling and challenging; a good mentor can help you navigate it.

I have been teaching for 18 years and researching for 13, during which time I have experienced numerous changes in the Higher Education sector. I have worked in 2 countries and recognise the challenges faced by academics who have relocated for work. I bring a range of research, education and administration experiences to the role, to include: writing internal and external grant applications; undertaking and completing research for leading publications; strategic research and career planning; building and maintaining an international profile; awards applications; all aspects of teaching & learning, to include: interactive teaching; setting clear boundaries with students; time management; communication strategies; turning great ideas into successful projects; prioritising work and completing tasks; time management and ‘saying no’; navigating academia as a female and/or low SES/ working class academic; dealing with challenging situations & crises; maintaining enthusiasm and energy levels; balancing academia with family life.
