Types of mentoring:
Academic

I believe mentoring is important because having good mentors is critical for navigating a research career and for feeling connected.

I have been in a research-intensive role since completing my PhD in 2011, while taking a balanced approach to work. I have received diverse funding, with a focus on NHMRC. I find that formal/informal professional development and building collaborations are vital to a successful research career. Having a valued skill set (e.g., in methodology and research design) has helped to grow my research career through my contribution to diverse research projects, but it is also important to build research leadership. I have benefited from excellent supervision and also recognise the value of building additional support through mentoring relationships.
