I believe mentoring is important because it helps create a culture of feedback from people who can support you who have a diverse range of experiences and opinions. A good mentor can help you make connections to diverse ideas, to develop strategic decision making and build your academic profile.
I have worked for 20 years in academia in research, teaching and administrative roles. I have been through the promotion process successfully and unsuccessfully. I have achieved grant success, and grant failure and had my fair share of rejections. I have extensive experience in HDR supervision.
I enjoy working with colleagues to assist them to prepare for promotion and grants, highlighting their individual contributions and career trajectory.
I am a parent and understand the additional pressure this places on academic careers.
