Types of mentoring:
Academic

I believe mentoring is important because it matters in helping rising early career researchers (ECRs) in their academic trajectory. A good mentor breaks ECRs out of their comfort zone and encourages them to keep improving and guide them into new experiences.

I would like to share my experience, success, failures and challenges I have faced in my academic career with ECA colleagues at ANU. My strengths/expertise are outlined below:

  • Grant and Fellowship success (DECRA, NHMRC, ARC, DARF, BUPA and MS Research Australia)
  • Has supervised PhD students (4 completion with 6 current)
  • Getting projects finished and published
  • Seeking and maintaining productive collaborations and networking at national and international level
  • Working across related, but diverse fields of research
  • Participated in the Mentoring Program in the past three years
  • As father of two kids, I understand the issues linked to successful academic career and family, this is an everyday focus of my research
  • Setting up a vision, and short term and long term plan for my career development
  • Continually invest in developing my leadership skills, and interpersonal skills which I consider fundamental to building a successful career trajectory
