I believe mentoring is important because it allows you to have an alternate view of yourself so that you can make better decisions.

I missed out on having a mentor for much of my career and now understand the value of such a relationship. There were several career decisions that I made which were poor and I wish that I had someone to talk to about them. I now mentor people with intellectual disability and teams on the ACT Innovation competition. I spent years gaining qualifications by studying part-time and now I get to teach at ANU and apply leading practice in government agencies. The skills I bring are listening and asking probing questions based on 40 years’ experience in multiple industries.
