I believe mentoring is important because we can all use external insights into how to work towards our goals.

I’ve been in academia since 1999 and worked overseas for a total of around 5 years, before coming to ANU in 2004. I set up a new experimental activity which has included supervision of many students, undergrad and postgrad, as well as postdocs and research fellows. I have also held a range of leadership positions within and external to the ANU. I’ve had to carefully manage family and other external commitments to maintain a healthy work life balance, with varying degrees of success and I have some insight about what to do in order to achieve this.
