Sean Hannan

Senior Government Relations Adviser

Sean works with local and federal government officials to help advance the important and growing relationship the University has with government. Effective government relations is about understanding the landscape, communicating effectively, and building sound relationships. Sean can help internal areas progress these elements.

Prior to taking up his position, Sean was Assistant Director in the Australian Government Department of Industry with responsibility for policy advice, grants management and international collaboration to progress the deployment of low emissions fossil fuel technologies. Sean has previously worked on a diverse range of policy issues such as international science collaboration, innovation, defence strategy and business development.

Sean is familiar with ANU following a six-year stint working across the College of Science, Student Recruitment and Institute for Environment and holds a Bachelor of Science degree (ANU) and a Graduate Certificate in Science Communication (ANU).
