Strategic Communications and Public Affairs (SCAPA) is the University's central point for public affairs, internal and external communication, media relations, community engagement, public lectures and outreach, government relations and VIP visits and protocol.
The Public Affairs team helps to promote the activities and operations of the University to external and internal communities. The team manage major University events, including the ANU Commencement Address, State of the University, the ANU Foundation Day, Meet the Author series, Eat, Drink and be Literary series and the Lions Oratory competition. The Public Affairs team produces the ANU Reporter magazine, the University's Annual Report, On Campus and Experience ANU newsletters and the Experience ANU website.
The Strategic Communications team, (also known as the ANU Media Office) is the newsroom of the University. This team of communications specialists provides our academics with support and training in media engagement including helping to write media releases, place opinion pieces, and preparation for interviews. The team works closely with academics to develop news stories and with news organisations to generate media coverage. The team also manages the ANU Newsroom website and the ANU Experts Guide.
The Government Relations team, which includes VIP visits and protocol, fosters the University’s relationship with Parliament and Government. The team coordinates submissions to parliament, background briefings and parliamentary engagement activities, and provides advice, high-quality analysis and expertise on relevant regulatory issues and supports academics working in the policy space.
Our Multimedia team produces photography and videos for our publications, social media, websites, ANU TV on YouTube, MOOCs for ANUx and operates the LiveU broadcast commentary service. The team operates a professional studio to help journalists and news organisations from around Australia and the world connect with ANU experts.
