North American Liaison Office

The ANU North American Liaison Office (NALO) is based in the Embassy of Australia, Washington DC, and facilitates the development of research and education partnerships in North America. NALO is a key component of the Australian whole-of-government approach to develop bilateral relations between the United States and Australia.

The ANU currently has ongoing collaborations with over 350 US-based institutions, in disciplines such as physical, environmental and earth sciences, economics, Asian studies, languages and studies in human societies. The ANU is open to new collaborative opportunities, and welcomes the opportunity to discuss such ventures in more detail.

Research funding & strategic partnerships

  • As part of the ANU Strategic Plan, internal funding is available for strengthening collaboration with priority international partners via the ANU Global Research Partnership Scheme (Round 2 applications closed on the 1st of August 2018).
  • ANU has a partnership with the US firm McAllister & Quinn, which assists researchers to identify and apply for relevant US federal funding opportunities.
  • NALO also tracks US and Canadian funding/fellowship opportunities for ANU staff, such as the East-West Center Asia Studies Fellowship Program.
