Rui (Ray) Liu

International Coordinator
  • Data collection, curation and analysis for international strategy and engagement projects
  • Development of strategic briefings and reports
  • Stakeholder engagement and support

Rui joined the ANU central international office in 2012. He has extensive experience in partnership development and business intelligence and a regional focus and expertise on Asia Pacific and China in particular.  Rui’s two decades of experience in the international higher is a tale of two national capital cities – he was in Beijing for 13 years, and has been in Canberra for 6 years.  They have been his two favourite places to live as each one of them suited a different stage of life.

While in China, his education at Beijing Foreign Studies University with a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies led to a long and successful career at the International Office of Beijing Jiaotong University, where he enjoyed being part of the modernisation of Chinese universities. During this time he also got his Master of Management degree.  His thesis was on internationalisation strategy and practice for Chinese universities to take out to the world.

The move to Australia has put Rui on the other side of the chess table, often dealing with China from the outside. Working for ANU, in the International Strategy & Partnerships team, Rui believes that to deliver high-quality strategic information and advice requires precision, reliabililty and a data-driven approach to problem-solving.   With a dedicated career in the international space, Rui has travelled around the globe, and now relishes every moment of his life in the beautiful “small city” of Canberra.
